May 27, 2010
Opening Soon! While our search and fundraising continues for a
suitable building and public facilities, we have a modest exhibition space in
the historic Jeremiah Beal building in West Brattleboro,
Vermont. Come visit the sample exhibit, try
your hand at a few fiber related activities and watch a weaving demonstration on
one of Tasha’s antique looms. Thank you to our Charter Members who have made
this space possible.
Expanding the Museum Collection: A complete set of Tasha
Tudor’s books will be available for visitors to enjoy. Bring your children and
reminisce over the stories you know and take delight in those you’ve never
read before. The Museum has acquired
about half of the 85 titles and is happy to accept any extra copies you might
have.
Strolling of the Heifers:
Brattleboro
celebrates
Vermont
’s rich agriculture heritage with this famous festival in which young cows are
led in a parade down
Main Street
(and much more!) This fun event draws thousands of visitors every year.
Visit the Museum booth and meet founder, Amy Tudor on Saturday June 5,
2010. More information
Children’s programming: Special thanks to volunteer Leigh
Branson who led a team of volunteers to conduct initial research and led several
children’s programs last fall in which they learned weaving and drop-spindle
spinning. We will continue to
develop these activities as part of our mission statement of
“becoming a living history center promoting American and especially New
England traditional values as demonstrated in Tasha’s arts and lifestyle.”
Volunteer hosts wanted: Many of you knew Tasha and we invite you
to share your stories with national and international guests by volunteering for
one three-hour shift each week throughout the summer.
We hope to be open each day from 10am to 4pm; we’re looking for about
ten more volunteers in order to make this happen.
Did we mention that volunteering qualifies you for charter membership?
More Information
Volunteer artist wanted: With over 250
donors, we’re ready to start the permanent display of these special members.
We’re seeking an artist who can paint in the manner of Tasha Tudor to
create a wall sized garden scene based on her illustrations. Charter Members
will be assigned to a hollyhock, peony or forget-me-not, etc. depending on level
of donation.
Charter Membership Continues: Great news!
With an extended deadline, you still have the chance to join this
exclusive membership or raise your level of giving with additional donations.
All Charter Members will be displayed permanently in the future museum.
Over 250 charter members have donated nearly $85,000 since 2007. Tasha always
said it took 12 years to make a garden and we think it is fair to apply this
concept to the Museum as well. You
can see that we’re well on our way to being the Museum “that provides
inspiration to the general public by immersing them in the world created by
author, illustrator and early American lifestyle icon, Tasha Tudor.”

The fledging
Tasha
Tudor
Museum
continues its capital campaign, maintaining the goal of opening in 2010. Tasha
was exceedingly honored that her family was working to create a museum in her
honor remarking on it as a “feather in her cap!” We wish Tasha could know
that you, kind readers, have donated nearly $70,000 with barely a nudge from us.
Fortunately, there is no need to wait until 2010 for the
opening exhibition. The Museum thanks the Ford family for their remarkable story
which we bring to you as the first online
exhibition.

Amy Tudor has renewed enthusiasm for the Museum and preserving the old ways

an old Tasha Tudor pushsleigh.
